Areena Belly Dancer
Areena Belly Dancer is a seasoned performer with well over 750 belly dance performances under her sparkly belt. She has been performing elegant "raqs sharki" & Oriental fusion Belly Dance as a soloist in Santa Fe since 2004. As a former member of the Saltanah Dancers (co-founder, co-director, teacher, soloist, troupe member and co-choreographer 2006-2018), Areena will forever cherish the myriad precious experiences, sisterhood and invaluable training those years provided.
Areena sponsors diversity & inclusivity for belly dancers and eclectic performance artists alike. She produced 10 New Moon Cabarets (a monthly 21+ curated variety show) & 6 Enchanted Santa Fe Evenings (live Middle-Eastern & world music concerts with 12+ belly dancers) at Honeymoon Brewery June 2019-March 2020. She anticipates many more live performances & collaborations in a post-pandemic world! Check out her Youtube channel (link above her photo) to see past shows.
Performance history includes shows at restaurants in Santa Fe such as El Farol, Vanessie's, Pyramid Cafe, Cleopatra's Cafe, Tumbleroot, The Bridge at Santa Fe Brewing & more ... to birthdays, festivals and weddings ... to the Lensic Performing Arts Center, Santa Fe Bandstand on the Plaza, Meow Wolf and countless stage productions.
With an intention to respect the origins and cultural context of Belly Dance, and other world dance forms, Areena began studying dance in 1999. She avidly continues taking workshops in Egyptian raqs sharqi and Oriental Belly Dance, Folkloric Dances of the Middle East, Turkish Rom, Classical Persian, Bollywood, Hula, Spanish fusion, Ballroom and Latin Social Dances (salsa, cha-cha, bachata, merengue, kizomba, Brazilian zouk, cumbia and tango). Study with people from the cultures whenever possible!
Areena Belly Dancer's fluid yet precise style will keep your eyes riveted! Gorgeous silk veils, balancing dances with candle tray and basket, fabulous costumes - with optional Mermaid, Mystical Phoenix LED & Goddess-themed costumes designed and created by Areena - increase the wow factor.
